Book suggestions: serious stories with drama but still with lots of comedy?

There's a series of books called The Belgariad, and its sequel series The Malloreon by author David Eddings. The books are fantasy, and more adult themed than the normal YA genre. The books have PLENTY of comedic moments, including several VERY clever characters, who quip a lot (which is the form of humor in both Buffy and Angel- quipping). The fantasy plot is not super original, but it's well written, and certainly comedic as well as content-based.
