My laptop dvd drive only reads certain dvd's???? i have HP Pavilion entertainment pc?

so i have only had my laptop for about a year and the last few months the dvd drive is making me mad, some dvd's i'll put in and they will work fine and other's it sits there and makes weird sounds like jerking or toughing and then won't read the dvd??? Especially my Buffy the vampire slayer series, all discs are new and i clean my dvd drive with a dvd disc cleaner so what could be wrong????
